FDA announces new amalgam review

Washington—The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will convene a dental advisory panel Dec. 14-15 to review "scientific issues that may affect the regulation of dental amalgam. The panel meeting will focus particularly on the potential risk to vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, fetuses and young children," said the FDA's June 10 announcement.

ADA backs special care dentistry bill for aged, blind, disabled

Washington—ADA-supported legislation would require states to provide "appropriate and necessary oral health benefits" to aged, blind or disabled persons who are Medicaid eligible. Under current law, adult dental services are optional under Medicaid and most states provide little or no coverage for these services.
